Some case histories of clients A family wanted to buy this house to run as a bed & breakfast business, but spoke little French and ran a business in the UK, thus lacking the time to travel to all the meetings. I arranged a procuration document with the Notaire and handled all signings in France on behalf of them. The acte de vente (completion) took place approximately two months after viewing, all local services and taxes were transferred to the new owner's names. Several local artisans were sourced and engaged to carry out re-modelling work on the property. A small barn in need of complete renovation. A French Architect was consulted who stated that the property was small enough to do the plans independently, although he was more than willing to do the work required. After consulting the prefecture, plans were drawn to the required standard and the necessary project descriptions were drafted. On checking that all documentation was in order, and having translated all into French, I submitted them for approval. A year later the project was completed and is now a popular letting property. During the process, a new electricity supply had to be laid on requiring a certificate, or consuel before connection was permitted. Similarly, water, gas and telephone services were provided. A successful antiques dealer had moved to France was continuing to trade via the internet. Knowing that the business must be registered in France, my help was sought. After several meetings with an advisor at the local Chambre de Commerce, the necessary formalities were followed. I acted as interpreter. On completion, we assembled the required paperwork and registered the business. A SIRET number is obligatory to trade legally in France, this is only allocated by following the above procedure.
